Some good food and drink venues in Somerset, needs more advertising
Matthew’s food is exciting, beautifully presented but most of all truly delicious! We always feel welcome when we go to The Wild Garlic and Nailsworth is lucky to have such a nice restaurant!
Our first time at The Wild Garlic and hopefully not our last! Very attentive and genuine service and the food absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. A lovely atmosphere, so all in all a first class experience.
The above comment was actually posted by my father-in-law Richard Cain
Tanners restaurant has always proved time and time again to be the place for fantastic food, service and great ambiance.Keep up the great service thanks
Tapenades is a class restaurant with fabulous food in a small town. We are really lucky. Venison with a chocolate sauce and the best white chocolate cheesecake ever. The husband and wife team run a tight ship, so standards of service (just like the food) are high, with a warm and friendly welcome and easy atmosphere. A must visit for anyone in East Cornwall.
I’ve been to Tanners perhaps once a year when visiting Plymouth over the past six years and have always had a fantastic experience. The food and service is better than many one star venues I’ve visited, it makes the trip worthwhile.
Seagrass and Lee Childs are real gems in the lovely seaside town of St Ives. The food is amazing and the staff and service is first class. We visited twic i a weeks holiday sa we were so impressed first time. Can’t wait to go back again next September hen we are down in St Ives again.
Rock Salt is a proper hidden gem in Plymouth. Food is amazing and a nice relaxed friendly setting. Simply brilliant!
The Quay Bakery in Fowey This bakery makes everything by hand, daily, on-site. This is much needed in Fowey, where there are many clothes and trinket shops, which close in winter! This is open all year round, and with a range of bread, ciabattas and cakes smells like heaven!
Vote the muset Bristol with Jethro Lawrence
I vote Divas cafe, Frome, delicious food, great coffee, fantastic team.
Go to the Flying Pickle in Tiverton for fab deli products. I go every week for a wonderful Mocha coffee and the atmosphere.
Ben’s Cornish Kitchen serves the best food in any West Cornwall restaurant! If you haven’t visited yet then you must visit as soon as you can.
We’re very proud of what we have. achieved at The Culbone
Bens Cornish Kitchen in Marazion , produces Food of such freshness with skill and a friendly smile that you need look no further when in this part ofCornwall , when you want a relaxing meal. Book ahead ,do not be disappointed.
The thing I like about Ben’s Cornish Kitchen is the understated way that Ben produces such outstanding food. Chef Ben Prior is not afraid to push the boundaries for those who want something a bit different – which is what I usually ask for. With a great wine list and many available by the glass, I’m not stuck with one bottle for the whole meal.
If you haven’t been, I highly recommend it!
Totally agree with Mike Roberts and Joff Day! I totally LOVE Ben’s Cornish Kitchen. The food, wine, ambience and general welcoming air makes for restaurant perfection. Visited last week from Dorset – and soooo worth the 360mile round trip!!!
The Quay Bakery in Fowey. A one man shop baking superb bread and the best Bakewell tart in the world.
amazing combination of flavours in every dish I have eaten at Seagrass Restaurant, St. Ives, Cornwall. Lovely ambience, friendly staff with good knowledge of dishes and ingredients.
After just 3 years OLIVERS restaurant, high street, falmouth, has established a discerning clientele of regular diners, who in these present resessionary times fill this welcoming small dining room night after night. A real tribute to an imaginative and proffesional chef and a most proficient hostess. Without doubt the BEST IN THE WEST.
We had excellent food and service at Oliver’s in Falmouth Cornwall. They went out of their way to please, always with a smile and interaction with us all. Highly recomend.
An evening to remember. Excellent Food, service and ambience. Unpretentious surroundings – a restaurant to return to again and again. Oliver’s is the place to be seen at!
The Ferryboat Inn, Helford Passage, Cornwall. Just had an amazing Raostie here and totally recommend it. The staff were extremely friendly and the setting absolutely beautiful…..get on down there!!
Just had an excellent lunch at Olivers in Falmouth High St. You would have to travel a long way to beat this.
Had a fantastic sunday roast and excellent service at the Ferryboat Inn, Helford passage with my sister in law from Australia what a great advertisement for Cornwall.
The Harbour in Port Isaac. Fantastic food, amazing staff, fab wine, lovely location, definately going there again soon!
Wild Garlic in Nailsworth is an absolutely amazing restuarant. We went for the first time last Friday and are now really looking forward to going again on New Years Eve. We are so glad that we have found it and am sure we will visit again and again.
One of the best modern Indian dining in UK. Being a regular customer at the mint room which provides food with fresh and variety style of cooking, blended with spices which reminds me of the real Indian flavours. Innovative, eyes catching presentation makes the mint room head chef MamrejKhan one of the most fine talented chef in south west, thank u

At Dine-amics when fairly new to recruitment, Emily Knight has been a great help all things Bristol. She can make a negative sound positive. A champion to the cause for any food based business, and anyone who wants to eat out.
Well Done to Martin at Fisherman’s Arms Barbican Plymouth for making the final – simply the best….

Anne and Phil Poore
The Sea Trout Inn was faultless in every way and they made it look so easy – always putting the customer first and with a smile. Would highly recommend to anyone – i overheard a fellow customer saying it was the best meal he had ever had!
great food , great team and a great place to stay
Bristol Bites is the best food blog, great work Emily Knight
Great food and great pub …The Sea Trout
the sea trout inn is just about perfect, a rare find of knowledgeable, friendly staff great food cooked to perfection, and comfortable accomodation, we were made to feel like we known them for years within one night. It was just great to trundle down from our room for sumptious dinner and drinks spend the rest of the night in the bar cosied up infront of the log burner and trundle back upstairs to our room suitably saciated.
We chose the Sea Trout at random becuase it was close to Dartmoor and Totness and Dartmouth. What a hidden gem!
We visited Bens Cornish Kitchen in Marazion together with 2 friends a few days ago and enjoyed a fantastic meal at this small restaurant. The food was excellent and the service first class. A friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere in its contempory setting.
I just love everything about Seagrass and Lee’s cooking. Have just booked to come to St Ives next September and Seagrass will be the first restaurant we go to.

Woods Cafe, Cardinham Woods,
Great great grub after a great walk in a great location. If you go try the winter ploughman’s – amazing!! Oh and also Brownies to die for!!
Rocksalt – Plymouth
Serves the most amazing food in the area in a relaxed atmosphere providing top notch cuisine at reasonable prices. There are lots of good restaurants in Plymouth but this currently is providing the most cutting edge food and I’m pleased to see it nominated.
The Cheese Press in Torquay has the best local cheese i have ever tasted and together with a warm welcome make it a pleasure to shop in. Keep it up, you are doing Devon proud.

The Sea Trout is excellent in all respects,
Well run by friendly, enthusiastic efficent owners and team. Wonderful ambiance, comfortable attractive rooms and delicious food. All this set in a very attractive part of the country. We are looking forward to spending the New Year there.
Voted for Cafe-ODE, amazing place in Shaldon, definitely check it out!
Had dinner recently at the Ferry Boat. Lovely fresh fish, I enjoyed the fresh squid starter with chilli jelly – that had a real kick to it. My hubby had the fish & chips (haddock) and said it was beautiful, fresh, light batter and a good portion. Very nice unobtrusive staff, friendly atmosphere and beautiful old pub to boot – what’s not to like.
We have eaten at the fisher men’s arms in Plymouth on many occasions and it has always been a wonderful night the food has always been excellent and the service impeccable. The friendly banter and excellent choice of fine wine and good food is the best we have found in Plymouth
Just like to say thank you to everyone who has voted for the restaurant and the kind words that have been posted. Completely blown away by the whole thing we will continue to do our best to make every meal as good as we can. Thank you so much Ben & the team.
Sadly not being an employee but an employer I can not afford to go to these places but just as a treat enjoy a good glass of Orchard Pig Cider once in a while
Rocksalt has the perfect formula. Intimate, friendly and informal with bubbly staff and fabulous food. Today I had the most beautiful salad adorned with edible flowers which tasted even better than it looked. Having visited on several occasions, the food is consistently of a high standard both in presentation and taste and the chef deserves to be recognised.
Relish, Wadebridge to win!
If you haven’t visited yet then you are missing out on a real treat. Cafe ODE is such a wonderful place to eat and meet with friends. A yummy menu for adults and kids, lovely friendly staff and along with ODE Dining, Shaldon really does have fantastic places to eat, drink and enjoy! Well done to all the team in making this so special.
It is quite difficult to get into Olliver’s in Falmouth because it is so popular, and this in a small town with at least 10 other, good, restaurants. As a”pleb” I enjoy a good meal but have wondered at the TV chefs who discuss the individual tastes of food. I know why now. At Oliver’s you can’t help it. Have never had better.
The Ferryboat Inn Helford Cornwall lovely food, fantastic location, good service and food. Will definately be sampling again!!
Fisherman’s Arms in Plymouth is a hidden gem. Consistently excellent food served with prompt and friendly service. There are also some outstanding beers.
We’ve been going to The Sea Trout Inn for some years now – it suit us. A great location, friendly, efficient staff and owners who have put a lot of effort into presenting comfortable, tastefully decorated accomodation over the last few years. Add the tempting menu and the experience is complete.
All I can say the service at The Fishermans Arms was fantastic and such a friendly and welcoming pub which is hidden away but what a find. The service is always with a smile and made myself and my party very welcome. And manage to book my xmas party there too. The food is great and the open fire very welcoming.
The Fishermans Arms in Plymouth is hard to beat. Great food time after time. Well worth a visit
3rd visit to The Sea Trout,Staverton – such an unspoilt part of the country – and so relaxing with very friendly staff, excellent food and fantastic walks.
The Sea Trout Inn – It is hard to find these days a place that truly gives you everything, Great food, great staff, great customer service and great prices. Well you will find all of this and more at the Sea Trout Inn. A perfect little gem in Staverton, with a wonderful ambiance and open fires. Looking forward to my visit to this sanctuary in 3 weeks time for my perfect get away.
The Sea Trout Inn is a great place, we visit many times a year and always have a warm welcome, excellent locally sourced food, clean comfortable accomodation all in a very beautiful part of the country.Sam and Jason are good hosts and nothing is too much trouble for the friendly staff.

We visited The Sea Trout Inn this summer. The food was excellent, with fresh lokal ingredients in their dishes. /Maria
Visited the Fishermans Arms again last night and as always got a wonderful reception and exellent food, faultless.
Salt Rock Cafe Plymouth does it for me every time. One of those little gems that keeps producing fantastic food consistently.
Lovely, nice and cosy restaurant is THE HARBOUR, to Port Isaac! Great menus made by a great person! I did love it!
After 6 months in Falmouth, I can vouch that Oliver’s Eatery is consistently excellent. And having been spoiled for several years in central London, this is really the only place here to come near that level of quality. Shame they are not open Sunday’s!
Although Rocksalt is in category of cafe I believe it should have the status of a first class restaurant which surpasses the standard/ reputation of River cottage Canteen. Wendy Royle.
The Fishermans Arms Plymouth.
The Best Posh Fish and Chips Ever!!
Ben’s Cornish kitchen
Marazion
This place is a hidden gem, the food is fantastic and the quality is up to Michelin star standard. With local produce and the fresh sea catch of the day you can’t go wrong. For starters I had the Seared Falmouth Scallops with cauliflower and cumin puree, Moroccan caramel, apple match sticks, curry oil. It was simply a delight to the taste buds, the favours really complimented each other and you got plenty of scallops. For the mains I went for the Pan roasted Cod fillet with picked girolles, leeks and smoked pancetta, surf clam beurre blanc, sauteed potatoes. The size of the portion was huge and those sweet surf clams contrasted lovely to the smokey pancetta. For dessert I opted for Toby’s selection of miniature dessert’s which I shared with my wife, well one can’t be to greedy and she did eat the lion’s share. All this was accompanied by a glass or two Camel valley pinot noir rose brut, the best in the UK, what a wonderful evening.
Fantastic restaurant with great friendly service
good quality food fresh local produce
Fantastic classic food with a contemporary twist in a comfy and relaxed atmosphere. Staff are friendly and knowledgable, nothing is too much trouble!
