After two hugely successful years, Foodies Festival returns to Bristol Harbourside for more foodie fun with top chefs such as Martin Blunos, Rachel Demuth from Demuths, Ronnie Faulkner of Ronnies, Romy Gill from Romy’s Kitchen, Richard Davies of The Manor House Hotel and Chris Staines of The Allium Brasserie, who’ll be cooking their signature dishes live in the Chefs’ Theatre. The theatre will be compered by food writer and Daily Telegraph columnist Xanthe Clay, who will also host food and wine matching demos each day. New elements for this year include a spectacular Cake and Bake Theatre where steampunk baker Emilly Ladybird will be demonstrating how to make a gin and tonic cake, and a dedicated Chocolate Theatre where there’ll be three classes per day on truffle-making, chocolate and wine matching as well as chocolate tasting.

August will see South Devon Crab Festival celebrating all things crabby and highlighting the quality and importance of the seafood found off our coastline. There’ll be special crab dishes on menus across the region all month, then on August 4 The Crab Street Party is taking place, managed by Mitch Tonk’s Rockfish team. Flavour Fest celebrates its tenth birthday this year, and is pulling out all the stops to make it an especially great festival. This free event will feature 100 stalls showcasing top quality South West produce, from organic meats to artisan ice cream. New for this year is a Real Ale and Wine area which will offer a variety of local ales, wines, ciders and beers, plus a troupe of Covent Garden entertainers to keep the crowds happy. The Food is Fun marquee entertain youngsters and look out for cookery demonstrations and handson workshops. And if you go on Friday August 16, you could take part in an attempt to break the world record for the largest cream tea.

The largest festival of the sea, seafood and fishing in the country, Newlyn Fish Festival celebrates the gastronomic delights of the deep. Chefs demonstrating at the festival include Nathan Outlaw, Ben Tunnicliffe of the Tolcarne Inn and Sanjay Kumar of Slow Food Cornwall. Foodies will also enjoy paella, grilled mackerel, fish curries and lobsters cooked on the barbie, and there’ll be the very freshest fish on sale from quayside fishmongers, along with a competition to find the best fishmonger.
