Food Reader Event
Restaurant Nathan Outlaw at The Marina Villa Hotel in Fowey is the most highly rated restaurant in Cornwall and one of The Independent’s Five Best Michelin-starred UK Hotels. On Friday October 31, to mark the end of this year’s Cornwall Celebration of Food, food and The Marina Villa are putting on a special evening that no food lover will want to miss. Nathan’s beautiful, unfussy food will be showcased in a five course tasting menu, with each course matched by wines from Ellis Wharton Wines. Nathan will introduce the food, Charles Wharton of Ellis Wharton Wines will talk us through each wine and the event will be hosted by food editor Jo Rees. As part of the Celebration of Food festival, the price is a brilliant £55 per person (usual price £100), with a donation being made to the South West Children’s Hospice Precious Lives appeal. Tutored Tea Masterclass
This day course is run by tea experts Tim Clifton and Jane Pettigrew who will be covering many different topics including the history of tea in Britain, how and where it grows, tastings, different types of tea and brewing methods. Running from 9.30am to 5.30pm at £175 per person the course includes tea and coffee through the day, lunch, afternoon tea with scones, clotted cream and jam and a copy of Jane's book, The Tea Lover's Companion. Clovelly Herring Festival
Second festival to celebrate the King of fishes, once the staple economy of Clovelly, in the crusade to help conserve dwindling fish stocks, safeguard the livelihoods of fishermen and promote neglected, but great-tasting species like the herring. Meet Mike Smylie, maritime historian and writer, and see his Kipperland exhibition, smokehouse and demonstrations of fishing crafts.
A currach will also be on show with herring drift net - a traditional craft used for transport and fishing (for more information, see www.courtofthesilverking.co.uk).

St Austell Brewery Celtic Beer Festival prepares to celebrate its tenth birthday this year. The unique surroundings of the old wine cellars and vaults beneath the Victorian brewery will play host to hundreds of revellers, a fantastic line-up of live bands including Mad Dog Mcrea, Black Jack Davey, Shadowy Experience and Bucket Boys
