Nestled into Totnes’ steep high street, next to the church, is a worth-putting-on-the-hit-list family-run restaurant and deli reflecting all that the world loves about  the “bel paese”.

Rome couple Alexandra Lappon and Mino Oggiano have an infectious passion for genuine Italian cuisine and high-quality artisan products which they carefully select and import from their home country. Traditional recipes, classically cooked by the team of chefs, include dishes like lamb ragu with fresh tortelloni pasta followed by award winning panettone giotto .

‘It’s all about the essence, the culture and the tradition of Italian regional cuisine,’ says Alex. ‘The simplicity of sitting down at a table, slowing down, tasting genuine flavours with some excellent wine and great company.’

The atmosphere is kept friendly and informal; Alex and Mino specialise in warm-hearted Italian hospitality.‘Our customers become friends and that’s how we like it,’ says Alex.

The restaurant also doubles as a fabulous deli so visitors can stock up on Mino’s extra virgin organic olive oil made on his Lazio farm, wickedly creamy gorgonzola and truffle peaches.

‘In our deli we also have the very best cheeses and cured meats, wines and award-winning bakery products,’ says Alex.

For those who enjoy discovering the inspiration behind authentic Italian artisan culture, this cosy restaurant and deli is a source of education and enjoyment. A taste of sunshine – whatever the weather.
