Spicer and Cole

Light and spacious coffee venue in Bristol’s Clifton Village

When they relocated from the capital to Bristol, Carla and Chris Swift were quite surprised by how hard it was to find great coffee and food served in the same space – and so Spicer+Cole was born.

Five years on, the West Country has caught up with the London coffee scene, and Spicer+Cole has gone from strength to strength too, opening its second venue in the centre of Clifton Village.

The Cliftonites like to keep things local and Carla says, ‘There’s so much right on our doorstep, why not use it?’ The house blend is roasted by Bristol’s Extract Coffee and there are also guest espressos to sample from the city’s own Roasted Rituals and Little and Long.

The counter is the hub of this light and spacious cafe, and it’s laden with tempting pastries, cakes and tarts to accompany the coffee, while for lunch there’s a good range of flatbreads, toasties and light dishes.

Insider’s tips

The gluten and dairy free Tunisian orange cake is so loved that one customer even wrote a poem about it.
