The Red Lion must have one of the best sites in Devon, on the harbour at historic Clovelly. Sitting and watching the little boats come in whilst tucking into local seafood dishes makes this place a bit of a gem. The bar is full of local characters, and puts you one in the mood to sing sea shanties – if only you knew any. Although the pub is at the bottom of the car-free village, it’s worth knowing that for hotel residents it is possible to take a steep back lane to the pub and park on a pebbled ridge at the top of the beach.
