The food Reader Awards shortlist: Best foodie pubs

In the run-up to the big reveal of winners in January 2012, we’re profiling the shortlisted businesses in the food Reader Awards – sponsored by Mole Valley Farmers.

As voted for by you, here are the best in the South West in the foodie pub category (sponsored by Darts Farm):

Jack in the Green, Devon

This multi award-winning pub-restaurant has been in the public eye recently, with head chef Matt Mason representing the South West on ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish, but it’s been a huge favourite with diners in the Exeter area for many years. Fabulous food in relaxed surroundings.

The Victoria Inn, Cornwall

With its chef-proprietor Stewart Eddy having trained under Raymond Blanc and Michael Caines, the Victoria Inn at Perranuthoe is much more than just a Cornish village pub. It’s recognised for its hearty, fuss-free but excellently executed dishes on the menu.

The Gurnard’s Head, Cornwall

The motto of this Cornish dining pub with rooms is ‘The simple things in life done well’ – and that certainl extends to the food. Dishes on the menu are rooted in the surrounding sea and countryside, with foraged ingredients and foods from nearby small producers appearing regularly.
