In the run-up to the big reveal of winners on January 9, 2012, we’re profiling the shortlisted businesses in the food Reader Awards (sponsored by Mole Valley Farmers).

As voted for by you, here are the best in the South West in the best local chef category (sponsored by the Hartnoll Hotel):

Adam Fellows, Goodfellows

Adam Fellows, head chef of Somerset favourite Goodfellows Restaurant in Wells, earned a Michelin star while working at the Charlton House Hotel. Goodfellows has won two AA rosettes and regularly appears in The Trencherman’s Guide, which lists top South West dining destinations.

Dale McIntosh, Bustophers

Dale McIntosh, head chef of Bustophers Bar Bistro in Truro, only joined the restaurant in April, but his contemporary twist on classic bistro dishes and passion for local produce have already made him a firm local favourite.

Rick Stein, The Seafood Restaurant

The first of two appearances from Rick in this year’s awards. His Seafood Restaurant in Padstow remains a bastion of fabulous cooking in the South West and is firmly on the hit list of the nation’s foodies, along with his much-loved cookery school.
