Tom Hunter has been named the new head chef of The Scarlet near Newquay.

Tom took up the post of acting head chef at the Scarlet following the departure of Jeremy Medley in March and the position has now been made permanent.

Tom has strong links to Cornwall having spent five years at the Well House Hotel in St Keyne, where he worked his way up from chef de partie to head chef. He attained 3 rosettes from the AA in 2008, which he maintained until he left in July 2010. Tom then moved to Warpool Court Hotel, St Davids, Pembrokeshire, for two years,  before returning to Cornwall earlier this year.

Tom said: ‘I watched the development of the Scarlet with interest and was very nearly part of the opening team. When I left Cornwall I knew I would be back soon and while I was considered for some other posts in Cornwall it’s always really been about the Scarlet!

‘Cornwall is very special to me personally, and also offers many passionate and unique producers that I am really excited to be working with again,’ he added.

‘I have an exceptionally talented team in place and am looking forward to producing some amazing food that reflects the already outstanding reputation of The Scarlet.’
